Group Representations and High-Resolution Central Limit Theorems for Subordinated Spherical Random Fields

چکیده

We study the weak convergence (in the high-frequency limit) of the frequency components associated with Gaussian-subordinated, spherical and isotropic random fields. In particular, we provide conditions for asymptotic Gaussianity and we establish a new connection with random walks on the hypergroup ŜO (3) (the dual of SO (3)), which mirrors analogous results previously established for fields defined on Abelian groups (see Marinucci and Peccati (2007)). Our work is motivated by applications to cosmological data analysis, and specifically by the probabilistic modelling and the statistical analysis of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation, which is currently at the frontier of physical research. To obtain our main results, we prove several fine estimates involving convolutions of the so-calledClebsch-Gordan coefficients (which are elements of unitary matrices connecting reducible representations of SO (3)); this allows to intepret most of our asymptotic conditions in terms of coupling of angular momenta in a quantum mechanical system. Part of the proofs are based on recently established criteria for the weak convergence of multiple Wiener-Itô integrals. AMS Classification. 60B15; 60F05; 60G60

Increasing Domain Asymptotics for the First Minkowski Functional of Spherical Random Fields

The restriction to the sphere of an homogeneous and isotropic random field defines a spherical isotropic random field. This paper derives central and non-central limit results for the first Minkowski functional subordinated to homogeneous and isotropic Gaussian and chi-squared random fields, restricted to the sphere in R. Both scenarios are motivated by their interesting applications in the ana...

Ergodicity and Gaussianity for Spherical Random Fields

We investigate the relationship between ergodicity and asymptotic Gaussianity of isotropic spherical random fields, in the high-resolution (or high-frequency) limit. In particular, our results suggest that under a wide variety of circumstances the two conditions are equivalent, i.e. the sample angular power spectrum may converge to the population value if and only if the underlying field is asy...

Some convergence results on quadratic forms for random fields and application to empirical covariances

Limit theorems are proved for quadratic forms of Gaussian random fields in presence of long memory. We obtain a non central limit theorem under a minimal integrability condition, which allows isotropic and anisotropic models. We apply our limit theorems and those of Ginovian (1999) to obtain the asymptotic behavior of the empirical covariances of Gaussian fields, which is a particular example o...

Central limit theorems for the excursion sets volumes of weakly dependent random fields

The multivariate central limit theorems (CLT) for the volumes of excursion sets of stationary quasi–associated random fields on R are proved. Special attention is paid to Gaussian and shot noise fields. Formulae for the covariance matrix of the limiting distribution are provided. A statistical version of the CLT is considered as well. Some numerical results are also discussed. AMS 2000 subject ...

Dispersion and limit theorems for random walks associated with hypergeometric functions of type BC

The spherical functions of the noncompact Grassmann manifolds Gp,q(F) = G/K over the (skew-)fields F = R,C,H with rank q ≥ 1 and dimension parameter p > q can be described as Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions of type BC, where the double coset space G//K is identified with the Weyl chamber C q ⊂ R q of type B. The corresponding product formulas and Harish-Chandra integral representations w...
